Barnyard Bodyguards

What exactly is a Barnyard Bodyguard?

Not every cat is suited to life as a house cat. Some cats that come through our TNR program are unable to be returned to their original location for a variety of reasons. Although this is not ideal, sometimes it's better for the cats to not be returned to an unsafe situation.

In these unique cases, Neighborhood Cat Advocates will adopt them out as Barnyard Bodyguards (aka Barn Cats) to large properties, barns, warehouses, wineries, and other establishments seeking all-natural pest control.

Our Barnyard Bodyguards Program offers these cats a second chance by placing them in safe outdoor environments, where they can live comfortably while helping to control rodent populations naturally.

Cats like these can be aloof, and are often considered feral. Although it is possible for an outdoor cat to eventually come to trust you and/or come to you for love, they often prefer to be left alone and unbothered.

THAT is a Barnyard Bodyguard. Our Barnyard Bodyguards take their jobs seriously, so if you are looking for hard-working, altered and unpaid mousers, continue reading!

Why Hire a Barnyard Bodyguard?

Barnyard Bodyguards are excellent working cats and can help control:
  • Mice
  • Rats
  • Gophers
  • Moles
  • Snakes
  • Squirrels

They still need daily care, including food, water, and shelter, but in return, they provide natural pest control and a meaningful alternative to euthanasia for cats that cannot be adopted as companion animals.

What You’ll Need to Provide

To hire a Barnyard Bodyguard, you must be able to offer:
  • Shelter in a barn, stable, shed, or outdoor building
  • Daily food and clean water (cats cannot survive on rodents alone)
  • Long-term veterinary care, as needed
  • A secure indoor space to house the cat(s) for 2-4 weeks while they acclimate to their new environment

What's Included

All cats available through our Barnyard Bodyguard Program are:
  • Spayed or neutered
  • Vaccinated for rabies and feline diseases
  • Microchipped & flea treated
  • Ear-tipped for identification
  • The adoption fee is waived for these very special working cats.

How to Apply
